Allegro Smart! and free delivery: the effect on sales
Daniel Pawłowski · Amazonway · · 8 min read
Allegro Smart! is a subscription on the buyer’s side: the customer pays once and gets unlimited free deliveries and free returns. The seller does not buy access to the programme, but on every Smart! shipment the seller tops up the delivery cost with an amount that depends on order value and the method chosen. Since 2 March 2026 a single free delivery threshold applies: PLN 49.90 on purchases from one seller, the same for a parcel locker, a pickup point and a courier. In this chapter of the guide to selling on Allegro we show how to join the programme, who actually funds the free delivery and at what kind of product Smart! stops adding up.
As of 31 July 2026. Conditions and rates are described from Allegro’s Help for sellers, with the source given next to each claim. Allegro changes its delivery price list periodically, so confirm amounts in the price list and in the settlements tab on your own account before you make a pricing decision.
What Smart! is for the buyer and what it is for the seller
For the buyer, Smart! is a paid subscription that removes the delivery cost above a threshold and lets them send parcels back without charge. It is a programme of real scale: at the end of Q1 2026 Allegro reported 7.7 million subscribers in Poland and 1.3 million on foreign markets (Allegro Q1 2026 results release, PDF, in Polish). These are figures reported by the platform itself, so treat them as a picture of scale rather than an independent measurement of the market.
For the seller, taking part means three things at once, and they are worth thinking about in exactly this order:
- A signal in the results: the offer gets the Smart! badge, and the customer sees “free delivery” instead of an amount to add.
- A new variable cost line: a delivery surcharge charged on every order and rising with its value.
- An operational requirement: the programme is available only to accounts that maintain an adequate sales quality level and have delivery methods and return terms configured.
Conditions: what the account has to meet, and what the offer
Allegro splits the requirements into two groups (Help for sellers, conditions for the Smart! badge). The first concerns the account and how you handle orders, the second the offer itself.
On the account side
- Sales quality at least at the Neutral level, calculated across all your accounts.
- Paying invoices for Allegro services on time.
- Acting in line with the platform’s terms.
- Passing buyers’ email addresses correctly to the logistics company. This is a technical condition with a financial consequence: without it, Allegro charges the full amount the carrier bills for the shipment instead of the rate from the table. Allegro puts it plainly: “The carrier will charge you the full shipping fee if you do not provide the correct email address” (Help for sellers, Smart! for sellers).
The sales quality level is the same indicator that affects relevance sorting and offer visibility, and the way it is calculated is broken down in the chapter on ratings and sales quality. Falling below the Neutral level cuts the account off not only from Smart! but also from the Top offer and promotional campaigns, so losing the badge rarely comes alone.
On the offer side
- The full set of Allegro Delivery methods available at your dispatch location and matching the product’s dimensions.
- Delivery prices within the brackets Allegro specifies, if you use methods outside Allegro Delivery.
- Return terms added to the offer, with a return address in Poland (when dispatching from Poland).
The choice covers to-the-door methods (Allegro One, DPD, DHL, Pocztex, registered parcel, MiniPrzesyłka) and to-the-point and locker methods (Allegro One, ORLEN Paczka, InPost lockers, DPD Pickup, Pocztex, DHL BOX). The badge is not given to offers from several excluded groups: fireworks, infant formula and over-the-counter veterinary medicines, nor to classified ads.
Who pays for free delivery: the co-funding model
This is the part most often misunderstood. Free delivery is free only for the buyer. Allegro covers part of the transport cost and charges the rest to the seller according to five order value thresholds: the more expensive the order, the higher the surcharge, and a courier shipment is more expensive than a locker or pickup point in every threshold (Help for sellers, Smart! settlement rules). We deliberately do not reproduce the specific amounts here, because Allegro publishes them in the tables of its price list for sellers and updates them independently of changes to the programme rules: read the rate for your own calculation from the price list and from the settlements tab on your account.
On Allegro the same parcel costs you more when the customer buys more. Between the lowest and the highest threshold, the surcharge for the same courier shipment rises several times over. This is the opposite of the intuition you bring from your own store, where the shipping cost is roughly constant, and it is the reason building bundles does not raise margin linearly.
Two rules that are easy to miss at settlement. First, if one order travels in several parcels, Allegro settles each further parcel at the rate from the middle threshold rather than by the value of the whole basket. Second, when a buyer returns a purchase or does not collect a parcel, the delivery fee comes back to you automatically, with no request needed.
How much Smart! really adds to sales
This is where care is needed, because Allegro gives two different numbers and both come from its own Help for sellers.
- Version one: “our data shows that the Smart! badge increases the chances of sales by 4 times compared to offers without that badge” (Allegro Smart!, information for sellers).
- Version two: sales “may increase up to 2.5 times” thanks to the Smart! badge (announcement about the changes to Smart! from 2 March 2026).
We are not picking the more convenient one, because the gap is too large to treat as rounding. Neither publication gives a methodology: not the period, not the categories, not how the compared offers were selected.
Our conclusion (not Allegro’s position): both figures describe a correlation, not a measured causal effect. The Smart! badge goes to accounts with an adequate sales quality level, a full set of delivery methods and returns in order, which is to say sellers who already compare better against other offers. Part of the difference attributed to the badge comes from who is eligible to have it in the first place. Treat these indicators as a signal of direction, not as a forecast for your category.
You can check it on your own account, though not perfectly: the badge works at account and offer level, so instead of an A/B test you are left with comparing the period before and after joining, on the same assortment, with seasonality and price changes stripped out. One month’s result will settle nothing.
Smart! in the margin calculation
Switching Smart! on changes two lines in the calculation at once, and those two decide whether it pays off.
| Item | Without Smart! (paid delivery) | With Smart! (free delivery) |
|---|---|---|
| Commission base | Product price plus the delivery cost paid by the buyer | The product price alone |
| Transport cost | Borne by the buyer | Seller surcharge by threshold and method |
| How the offer looks | Price plus a delivery amount | Smart! badge and “free delivery” |
| Direction of the effect on margin | Neutral | Depends on the ratio: commission saved against the surcharge |
The mechanics are easiest to see in an example. The figures below are illustrative, meant to show the method of calculation rather than any benchmark: a product at PLN 120, a 10 percent commission in the category, courier delivery at PLN 15, an assumed Smart! shipping surcharge of PLN 9 (read your own from the price list).
- Without Smart!: commission calculated on PLN 135, that is PLN 13.50. The buyer pays for transport.
- With Smart!: commission calculated on PLN 120, that is PLN 12.00, plus a PLN 9.00 shipping surcharge. PLN 21.00 in total.
The difference is PLN 7.50 per unit, and that is what the extra volume has to return. If you were earning PLN 20 on that product before joining the programme, PLN 12.50 is left, so to come out level, sales would have to rise by roughly 60 percent. That is the number worth calculating before the decision, not after the first invoice.
The full calculation framework, together with commission, promotion, advertising and a returns provision, is set out in the chapter on Allegro fees and commissions. If you are measuring advertising efficiency at a changed margin, the method of calculating profit rather than revenue that our technology brand Seedlight described in its piece on POAS instead of ROAS will also come in useful.
The Smart! surcharge is a logistics decision
How much you top up depends on size, weight and the way you pack orders, so the calculation moves with the shipping model. We set shipping models up together with the cost per parcel, SKU by SKU.
When Smart! does not pay off
The programme is not cost-neutral, and there are situations in which it takes more than it gives. The first three items follow directly from how the price list is built; we flag the fourth as a hypothesis.
- Low unit margin on an expensive basket. The surcharge from the upper thresholds can exceed the entire profit on a transaction, and it rises exactly where the customer spends more.
- Heavy and bulky products. The methods that can handle them are more expensive, and a courier is more expensive than a locker in every threshold.
- Categories excluded from the programme and classified ads. Here there is no decision to make.
- Assortment with a high return rate. Since the buyer has free returns, the barrier to sending something back is lower. We flag this honestly: we have no public data that would let us put a number on it, so it is a hypothesis to test on your own account, not a fact.
There is also the opposite case. If your bottleneck is delivery time and the cost of handling shipments, the more sensible move can be to hand logistics over to the platform’s warehouse, which we cover in the chapter on One Fulfillment by Allegro. Smart! then stops being a separate decision and becomes an element of a larger logistics model.
Checklist before joining
- Sales quality level at least Neutral and stable, not momentary.
- Delivery methods configured as the full Allegro Delivery set available at your dispatch location.
- Return terms created and added to offers, with a return address in Poland.
- Basket value distribution calculated: what share of orders falls into the thresholds with the highest surcharge.
- Surcharge entered into the calculation per SKU, worked out separately for lockers and couriers.
- A list of borderline products where the surcharge eats more than half the margin, with a decision on price or on withdrawal from Smart!.
- A checkpoint in the calendar: review the result after a full quarter, not after two weeks.
When it is worth handing this to a team
With a few dozen offers the Smart! decision is one afternoon with a spreadsheet. With a few hundred SKUs a different kind of work starts: basket distribution, prices sitting on threshold boundaries, sales quality monitoring and a monthly check on whether the surcharges have shifted profitability. At Amazonway we run this within the WP 04 Momentum stage of the WAYPOINT framework, that is ongoing account management together with pricing and campaigns, on a retainer plus success fee. The scope of the work is shown on the Allegro sales management and marketplace account management pages. An honest caveat: we do not promise a sales increase after switching Smart! on, because it depends on the category, the price and the competition. What we can do is calculate which products the programme adds to and which it takes from.
FAQ: Allegro Smart! for sellers
How much does Allegro Smart! cost the seller?
There is no fee for taking part in the programme. You pay, on each Smart! shipment, an amount that depends on the order value threshold and the delivery method. There are five thresholds, and current rates are in the Allegro price list and in the settlements tab on your account.
From what amount is delivery free in Allegro Smart!?
Since 2 March 2026 one threshold applies: PLN 49.90 on purchases from one seller, both for delivery to a locker or pickup point and for a courier. Previously there were two thresholds: PLN 45 to lockers and pickup points and PLN 65 for a courier.
Does Smart! lower the sales commission?
Indirectly, yes. Allegro charges commission on the product price increased by the delivery cost paid by the buyer. When delivery is free for the customer, the base is the product price alone. In exchange comes the shipping surcharge, so both changes have to be calculated together.
Does a goods return in Smart! cost the seller anything?
When a buyer returns a purchase or does not collect a parcel, the Smart! delivery fee comes back to the seller automatically, with no request needed. What stays on your side are the costs the price list does not cover: handling the case, checking and repackaging the goods.
Will all my offers get the Smart! badge?
No. Excluded from the programme are, among others, fireworks, infant formula and over-the-counter veterinary medicines, and classified ads do not get the badge. Beyond that, an offer has to have the full set of Allegro Delivery methods and return terms with an address in Poland.
Does Smart! work on Allegro’s foreign markets?
Allegro runs equivalents of the programme on its foreign platforms, but the rules and thresholds are set separately for each market. If you are planning to sell on allegro.cz or allegro.sk, check the conditions in the chapter on expanding to Czechia and Slovakia rather than assuming they are the same as on allegro.pl.

Find out which products earn with Smart!
If you already have Smart! switched on and do not know whether the surcharges fit inside your margin, start with the basket distribution and a per-SKU calculation. We will show which products lose on the surcharge, where it is worth moving the price relative to a threshold, and where it makes more sense to take the offer out of the programme.
